cailleach.
each night i feel the tear; stone fruit; the pith catching; somewhere deeper i hear it— split-hairs, sheeped skin, milk weeping just before it curdles; how can i devour the flesh that contains me; how can i reach for the pale, guileless, lune. solas na gealaí / moonlight choked, bone-blanched visions. tufts of hair decomposing in the drain. the shadows awaken, the whites of their eyes tic like moose-teeth. i step over a needle; pine-tusks. stone fruit. white spittle. clúdaíonn an ghealach mé / the moon covers me they speak in low, hushed ardent whispers. wouldst thou like to live deliciously? and this time, ✃𓄧 𓃵 i speak back.
inspired by robert eggers’ the witch ; language used in italics: irish / gaeilge
cailleach [ kai-yukh]: veiled one / crone/ witch;
